Thanks, Rick - you had told me about the grapes once, and I have definitely got plans for having them. Gotta get my winery started somehow, you know! And the kids go through them like nothing else... I'd love some cuttings when convenient - thanks!

Thanks for the input, Rick! I'm excited about the fence area - it receives enough sun during the non-winter months, and is also out of view from pretty much anyone who might object. I've seen some vertical strawberry towers and thought similarly... though I'd likely need to keep the tops below the top of the fence - not sure what the homeowner's association would say if PVC pipes were sticking up, viewable from a main road. :-)

I've also got another area that could do well with the channels, but would need another small AP setup over there. Nat's second AP setup, perhaps??? We'll see how this goes, and then start planning the second.

Having a fence along an edge of an AP system has been one of the best advantages I never thought of. Just by convenience and happenstance, my first (still only, blush) growbed was set up a foot from my fence. I hang water supply pipe on it. I laid the water return line at its base. I hung some cheap Home Depot green wire fence on the fence and it got colonized (aggressively) by SquashMelonCantaloupe vines, as the Grape Vine happily ran along the top.
I am pretty sure any additional growbeds, when I expand, will drain toward the fence where the 4" main drain will turn a corner and join the existing 4" pipe.
Vertical towers can hang on fence and grow strawbs. And/Or, some channels for a stream of Growbed-filtered water can be mounted and run way down a fence, and back! (Recycle Idea: satellite-dish mounting arms, screwed to fence posts, holding about three PVC downspout pipes with holes to host tons of basil or bok choy in cups)

Grapes love the aquaponic lifestyle. I've killed them in soil and containers, but watched one vine thrive in the system.
I'll put your name on some Mortensen Hardy cuttings, maybe put one per growbed? In a corner since they will hang around a while. Each cutting should grow about four feet the first year (and you'll remove any flowers/fruit) and over ten the second season so plan out some wire or arbor or fenceline for vines to run along!

Quick answer - whatever the missus wants! LOL I'm tempted to try abnormal backyard things like pumpkins, grapes, or even corn, which I've seen pictures of people do. More practially it'll be stuff we actually eat, though I'll have to plan out winter crop like broccoli or something. I've got some red bell and serrano pepper plants to transplant if they make it through February. Strawberries, tomatoes, cilantro, and who knows what else? I just have to find time to set it all up...

I had jury duty again a few months ago... Interesting to note that of the 70 or so potential jurors selected, they pretty much get all they need from the bottom half. If you are not part of the first half, no need to worry about making plans to be in court the rest of the week...

I upgraded the firmware to DDRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index) a few weeks ago, since the router is no longer getting updates from Linksys (now part of Cisco). Working well, lots of functionality!

Note that this gets easier if the target is a different path, ie: redirect /pcef or /PCEF or /PceF etc to /some/other/page/pcef. To do so, simply use mod_rewrite with the NC option:

RewriteRule ^/pcef /some/other/page/pcef [NC,R,L]

I confess that I have been getting more and more into Nagios.

I've found a plugin called NagiosQL that manages the configuration much easier with a mysql back-end, yet can be removed entirely as well, since it merely writes the files. (though also can perform sanity checks and trigger restarts). I have not made use of its managing remote nagios instances (via FTP) yet, but hope to try it out soon. Curious how it does the sanity check remotely, though restarts are just writing to the command file.

I've also used the NSCA plugin to report results to my standby nagios instance (failover box) so that state is maintained if we should need to failover.

Next I am looking into NRPE so that either the master or slave nagios server can check both nagios servers with the same configuration.

It's been a while since I posted this... Since then I've gotten a $60 gadget at Wal-Mart that plugs into my car's cigarette lighter, speaks bluetooth, and also broadcasts FM, so essentially I can do handsfree from my phone to my car speakers in any car. (the gadget has a microphone) On top of that, it has SD/MMC card slot, USB slot, and line in for playing MP3s. Very nice, I like how technology has advanced.

Also, Verizon has software for your PC so that you can connect to your mobile phone (via bluetooth or usb or other) and use it's internet connection. My phone from work is locked down and won't do it properly, but others with newer blackberries have gotten it to work. Imagine, Internet anywhere you get a phone signal!

Still playing! All of the chars above except the amazon I decided were useless because I didn't plan ahead enough when building them. Also, my hardcore necro died at level 45, which was frustrating.

Now I use a properly-built lvl 93 necro named "SuckyNoob" (chose that after I died in hardcore, partly for penance) and a few others in the 70s and 80s. I can regularly do all the events in the game solo, and have gotten several hellfire torches. Currently I am looking at a PVP assassin build, but it is going to take a good bit of practice. (every now and then someone pisses me off with a surprise kill, and it would be nice to be able to retaliate)

Currently I've got a level 91 Necromancer, 71 Sorceress, 68 Paladin, 49 Barbarian, and 42 Amazon. Some others interspersed, but those are the ones I like to play at the moment.

Even have a level 22 necromancer in hardcore (once you die, that's it). It's fun, but probably not worth it, since I don't want to die. :-)

Hurrah! It's working a LOT better now - better range, and also working with my other network infrastructure. Nice. I was worried I might need to return it, but upgrading to firmware version 0.93.3 did the trick.

Never did get around to doing this. I've since set up MythTV and could probably record the radio signal with the PVR card I use for it, but have not looked into it yet.

More importantly, W+J are now sending up a weekly podcast! Get it here

It looks like FC3 is a little more in line. All is set up accordingly, but you need to use the slaves subdirectory for slave files. Everything else works fine.

Cool, I got mod_auth_kerb working on apache at home, this one not needing mod_perl, either. On my linux desktop, if I run kinit and get kerberos credential cache, then konquerer will automatically login to my webserver! (It's possible that I don't have to configure any further trust because the machine realm and webserver realm are the same - don't know about cross-realm workings). If I did not have kinit run, then it asked for a password. Pretty neat!

I did have a little trouble getting the webserver working right - turns out it was failing because my service principal was http/saturn.guyton.net@GUYTON.NET instead of HTTP/saturn.guyton.net@GUYTON.NET. Huh. Anyway, now that that's taken care of...

Firefox was a little more tricky - I had to edit a different setting than NTLM in about:config - this time I set "guyton.net" to the network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris parameter, and after that, Firefox on Linux did automatic logins as well. Sweet!

I have not gotten this working on Win XP home with either Firefox or IE. Most likely it won't work, since XP Home doesn't really support kerberos by default (so I think). We'll see if I find anything. Makes a case for a Linux or XP Pro desktop.
